HASHTAG GATE

Last Monday was Hashtag Gate on Monday Music Quiz.

The previous post here relates to my thoughts behind changing over to using only the @ and not the hashtag when answering questions during the quiz.

However, despite a few people wanting the change, it was basically a total disaster!

This week, because of last week's disaster AND the fact I am now newly using tweetdeck 2 blue, we must definitely return to using the hashtag when answering questions.

So, remember, when answering, using #MondayMusicQuiz with your answer or your answer will not appear in my timeline and therefore not be counted.

For those not so fast at typing, copy #MondayMusicQuiz and simply paste into your answer box when replying.

NO MORE HASHTAG

I had been thinking about stopping using the hashtag for a couple of weeks now.

At the moment, everyone playing Monday Music Quiz must use the hashtag #MondayMusicQuiz in their answer or it doesn't appear in my timeline and therefore not counted.

My thoughts on changing it to only the @MondayMusicQuiz (quickly accessed by hitting Reply ~ see below) was to help those slower at typing (ie those who actually had to type out #MondayMusicQuiz each time they answered), and even those who more easily and quickly simply have the #MondayMusicQuiz copied and pasted with each answer.

Much quicker, and easier for our players, is simply hitting the "Reply" square on the MondayMusicQuiz avatar which of course accompanies each question I tweet.

As the tweets appear on tweetdeck:

Move your cursor over the Monday Music Quiz avatar and pick the top left cube "Reply to MondayMusicQuiz" and click on it and then type in your answer to the question.

Much simpler and much quicker and much less bother.

By the way, the thing that cemented the dropping of the hashtag for me was a discussion with @owlbird who had tweeted she was no longer going to do quizzes using only the hashtag.  Given my thoughts on it over the past 2 weeks I tweeted to ask her why and she told me that using the hashtag in a quiz only blocks up her timeline and may be annoying to her followers.

So, that's it folks.  Bye bye hashtag and possibly annoying your followers not playing and hello "Reply to MondayMusicQuiz" and the @ to speed everyone up and keep everyone happy.

See you all at 8.30!

BATTLE OF THE GIANTS

Our first ever Battle of the Giants will take place on twitter, tentatively on Monday the 1st of October.  The battle will commence at NINE PM (GMT).

Placings for Battle of the Giants (ie who got 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th per question), unlike during the normal Monday Music Quiz, will not be given until the sum totals of them all is done at the very end of the Battle.

Placings for those entering who are not part of the Battle of the Giants will be given as usual after each question.

THE QUESTIONS
The questions for #MondayMusicQuiz and #BOTG will be the same.  In other words, anyone can enter as a normal contestant USING ONLY the #MondayMusicQuiz hash tag.

Those entitled to enter the Battle of the Giants (all of whom will be informed PRIOR to the night) will be the ONLY people to use the Battle of the Giants hash tag which is #BOTG

THEME
There will be NO them on the night of Battle of the Giants.

THOSE ENTITLED TO ENTER BATTLE OF THE GIANTS
Those entitled to enter are all those who have won on any week.

MONDAY MUSIC QUIZ ~ HOW TO PLAY

The Monday Music Quiz on twitter takes places each Monday evening at 8.30pm (GMT).  It consists of 15 music questions tweeted out in about five minute intervals (with a five minute break after question 8) and those playing should answer as quickly as possible to be placed in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th place for each correct answer.  The quiz generally lasts for between 60 and 90 minutes.

Points are gained by being in the top five quickest in with the correct answer:

1st in gets 5 points
2nd in gets 4 points
3rd in gets 3 points
4th in gets 2 points
5th in gets 1 point

The point systems means that even if you are a little late joining in, you can still catch up.

The questions cover all genre of popular music (pop, rock, country, etc.) and all eras of music.

Everyone is welcome to enter and here is how to play:

1.  VERY IMPORTANT: use the hash tag (#) #MondayMusicQuiz when answering otherwise we will not see your answer in our timeline and therefore your answer will not count.  There is absolutely no need to use the @ (ie @MondayMusicQuiz).

2.  If using tweetdeck open a new column entitled #MondayMusicQuiz

3.  Answer as quickly as possible to try to get placed in first 5 to gain points on each question.  You can google for answers but be warned, that takes time and you may miss getting into first five.

4.  Every week there is a THEME.  The first player who correctly identifies the theme gains a valuable FIVE points.  No comment will be made during the quiz on whether anyone has correctly identified the theme.

5.  At the end of the quiz we will announce who was first in with the correct theme and then we will tweet out who came fifth, fourth, third, second, and the winner.

6.  At the start of each new month and during MondayMusicQuiz we tweet who the top 2 scorers were in the previous month.

Finally, the quizmistress is ALWAYS right!

MONDAY MUSIC QUIZ THEME ~ Monday 2nd July 2012

Those who take part in the Monday Music Quiz will know that guessing The Theme each week is a bit of fun and not done until after Q15 (the last question) is tweeted.

This week however, we are being a little bit good and a little bit evil.

THE GOOD

~ Guessing The Theme will gain the first in with it FIVE points.

THE BAD

~ Guessing it wrongly with LOSE FIVE points.

So, do you guess The Theme and if you're right you gain FIVE points or do you wait and possibly let someone else get the five precious points.

And you must remember too that tweeting The Theme early MAY help the other people playing by giving them a thread of thought which will help them with the questions tweeted after you guessed.

What a dilemma!

Oh, nearly forgot to add more pain, we won't be tweeting who guessed The Theme correctly until AFTER question 15!
